What is a Heidenhain Signal Converter? Classification - Function - Application
Signal converters are Heidenhain's superior products that provide greater flexibility for applications in manufacturing technology. Heidenhain's signal converter allows you to flexibly adjust the encoder's interface signal according to user requirements. Let's find out details about Heidenhain's signal converter with AMS!
1. What is a signal converter?
A signal converter is an important component in industrial and automation systems. Signal converters play an important role in converting information from one signal form to another, helping to collect data, measure, control and monitor important parameters in a specific and easy way.
Outstanding products include the Heidenhain Signal Converter, which allows users to flexibly adjust the encoder signal interface according to application requirements. For some applications, additional signals, such as from temperature sensors, are processed and forwarded to subsequent electronic devices.
2. Features of Heidenhain Signal Converters
2.1. Easy-to-use interface
Heidenhain signal converters are designed to be easily compatible with various auxiliary devices. Therefore, the product can be easily combined with components and connectors conveniently. With the ability to connect devices, the product can be applied for many purposes and can choose different designs such as: housing, connector, top cap rail or different integrated versions.
Some typical product lines:

2.2. High accuracy
Thanks to the ability to calculate the real-time position accurately based on two scanning heads from the rotating Heidenhain encoder without any adverse impact on the control loop. The signal converter can overcome common errors that occur during measurement and installation such as: shaft misalignment errors or installation of the eccentric ratio of the module angle encoder.
In addition to performing signal conversion, the signal converter also interpolates the sinusoidal encoder signals. This allows for more precise measurement steps, resulting in higher control quality and superior positioning behavior.
EIB 1500 series
-
Input: HEIDENHAIN incremental rotary encoder with two scanning heads and distance-encoded reference lines (mounting of scanning heads relative to each other: 180° ±5°)
-
Output: EnDat 2.2, Fanuc serial interface or Mitsubishi high-speed interface
2.3. Temperature measurement of direct-drive motors
The signal converter can monitor all three coils, thereby achieving higher efficiency, cost savings and overload protection for direct-drive motors. Optimizes temperature measurement from up to three temperature sensors and compensates for temperature measurement timing behavior in ETEL direct-drive motors.
Signal converters such as the EIB 5000 sensor box can also directly collect temperature information from direct-drive motors. When combined with a HEIDENHAIN encoder, the processed temperature can be transmitted to a higher-level controller.
EIB 5000 series
-
Less cabling required
-
Protects direct-drive motors from overload
-
Faster response in case of temperature overshoot
-
Increased cost-effectiveness
2.4. Easy measurement
The signal converter is an electronic device that allows the encoder to be connected to computer-assisted applications that meet the requirements for fast measurements and provide high signal resolution. These applications include test stations, multi-gauge measurements and mobile data collection for machine calibration.
